Arcom is partnering CLEMI for Press and Media Week at school from March 21 to 26, 2022. The audiovisual and digital communications regulator is conducting nationwide initiatives to educate people about the media, information and digital citizenship.

The 33rd Press and Media Week in Schools (SPME) takes place from March 21 to 26, 2022. Its aim is to help students, from kindergarten to high school, to: understand the media scheme, form their critical verdict, develop their taste for current affairs and forge their identity as citizens.

The theme of the 2022 edition is "S'informer pour comprendre le monde" ("Informing yourself to understand the world").

Arcom, partner of Press and Media Week in Schools (SPME)

The French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication,Arcom, opens its doors to students, giving them the chance to talk to members of the college and gain a better understanding of the French media ecosystem. By law, Arcom is responsible for ensuring that TV and radio channels, as well as platforms, contribute to media literacy, information and digital citizenship.

Arcom's activities are focused on three main areas:

  • education in the media, information and digital citizenship: introducing the audiovisual world, offering educational resources to present the challenges of media representations (questions of equality, plurality, rights and freedoms) and to raise awareness raising about copyright and promote legal supplies;
  • education through the media: promote the educational initiatives of TV channels, radio stations and platforms, and the teaching resources they put online on their sites, etc;
  • education through media use: encourage schools to develop web radios and web tvs, and support them.

Experience has shown that Arcom's action is particularly useful when it comes to contributing to training operations for educational leaders (for example, training CLEMI coordinators, EMI referent teachers in académies, etc.). Indeed, since 2018, Arcom has been asked on numerous occasions to train teachers in the use of the resources it publishes. To date, more than 550 teachers have been trained.
