Arcom initiates and accompanies technical developments in the audiovisual media.
Digital terrestrial television (DTT)
With regard to digital terrestrial television (DTT), work on a new modernised cycle has been underway since 2017 to define desirable developments and associated technical specifications.
While viewer habits are changing and alternative platforms providing new services, particularly interactive ones, are developing, DTT retains many advantages for viewers (free-to-air, stability, diversity of supply, extensive coverage, etc.). But these can still be strengthened.
Digital terrestrial radio (DAB+)
When it comes to digitizing radio, DAB+ (digital terrestrial radio) offers multiple benefits for both listeners and the stations themselves.
For listeners:
- better sound quality ;
- better listen continuity on the move;
- arrival of new stations;
- enrichment of the audio stream with associated digital data;
For radios :
- mutualization of broadcasting costs, thanks to grouping on the same frequency within a multiplex;
- extended coverage in a context of FM band saturation;
- assurance of survival in the future all-Internet Protocol digital ecosystem, in synergy with 5G mobile networks (LTE technology).
