BFM Story" show broadcast on July 19, 2024: intervention with BFM TV

Arcom was alerted to the BFM Story program , broadcast on BFM TV on July 19, 2024, during which a banner reading "Matignon/Mélenchon: Tubiana la meilleure placée" was shown, which partially repeated a statement made by the program's guest, Mr. Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

The Authority noted that the banner had only been shown very briefly, and that Mr. Mélenchon's oral intervention was unambiguous as to its content. However, it considered that its diffusion, the content of which only partially corresponded to what Mr. Mélenchon had said, could have misled viewers as to the overall meaning of his speech.

Arcom therefore summoned the service editor's attention to the need to ensure that, in all circumstances, the requirements of honesty and rigor in the presentation of information were met, and in particular that the banners corresponded to the remarks made by the speakers.
