Arcom was alerted to comments made by a journalist about the actions of certain environmental movements in the C ce soir program shown on France 5 on June 20, 2023.

It noted that the comments in question had been made in the context of a debate of general interest and did not contain any element likely to incite violence or dangerous, delinquent or uncivil behavior.

It therefore considered that they did not exceed the limits of freedom of expression, which, according to the long-standing and consistent case law of the European Court of Human Rights, applies " not only to information or ideas that are favourably received or regarded as inoffensive or as a matter of indifference, but also to those that offend, shock or disturb the State or any section of the population ".

Moreover, different points of view were expressed on the subject under discussion, and contradiction was brought to the journalist's attention.

Consequently, the Authority did not intervene against the service editor.
