Crimes" show to be shown on June 30, 2021: reply to the plaintiff
The French Superior Audiovisual Council, which became the Autorité de régulation de la communication audiovisuelle et numérique (Arcom) on January1, 2022, was alerted about the program Crimes shown on June 30, 2021 on Chérie 25, devoted to a court case.
After deliberation, the Council found no information in the documentary in question that had not already been brought to the public's attention.
Nevertheless, the Conseil is vigilant about the conditions under which legal cases are handled by the audiovisual media. It considers that, over and above strict compliance with regulations and jurisprudence, and in view of the numerous repercussions that these programs can have on the persons concerned when they reveal or bring to light elements of their personal lives, public information must be reconciled with the protection of the latter and their entourage, and with the safeguarding of their mental and physical health.
He therefore considers it necessary to conceal or modify elements (names, places, images, details of the past private lives of individuals and their entourage, etc.) which are not strictly necessary for an understanding of the case, all the more so in the case of cases which have not received wide media coverage.
Considering, on the one hand, the marked sensationalist nature of the program in question and, on the other, the age and limited media coverage of the case, the Council reminded the channel of the above-mentioned recommendations.
