The programme ‘Tout beau, tout n9uf’, shown on 15 September 2025, featuring an appearance on W9
A complaint was lodged with Arcom regarding a segment from the programme *Tout beau tout n9uf*, which was broadcast on the W9 channel on 15 September 2025, in which the presenter Michel Mary described the suspects in the kidnapping and burglary of a retired couple in Vaucresson as ‘rebeu’ and ‘black’.
Meeting in plenary session on 6 May 2026, Arcom deliberated on the matter.
In this case, it is clear from an examination of this footage that the disputed remarks are not such as to encourage discriminatory behaviour on the grounds of origin or skin colour, given that they do not target a group of people as a whole. Similarly, Arcom considered that these remarks did not constitute a breach of the requirement to respect human rights, insofar as the individuals concerned were not identifiable. Finally, Arcom considered that these remarks did not constitute a breach of the obligation to ensure the accuracy and rigour of information in the context of ongoing judicial procedures.
Whilst Arcom did not find the publisher to be in breach in this particular case, it nevertheless strongly reminded the publisher of the need to avoid any wording likely to perpetuate racist stereotypes, particularly where this involves associating criminally reprehensible behaviour with individuals identified by their origin or skin colour.
