Sanction against France Télévisions
As part of the sanction proceedings initiated on September 14, 2016 against France Télévisions following the broadcast on France 2, on July 15, 2016 at 1:27 am and 1:44 am, of images violating respect for the dignity of the human person, the Council has decided to insert the following press release in the 8 pm news on France 2:
" Press release from the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel
After an investigation in accordance with the procedure required by law, the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel deplores the fact that, following the attack in Nice on July 14, 2016, France Télévisions broadcast, on the France 2 service, testimonies of people in a state of shock, gathered while they were still close to the lifeless bodies of their loved ones. However, the Council noted the exceptional circumstances in which this footage was broadcast, and the promptness of the apologies that were offered on several occasions by France Télévisions. "
This statement must be read out once by the presenter on the set of the France 2 newscast during the first quarter-hour of the weekday 8 p.m. newscast, excluding weekends, within eight days of notification of the Council's decision. It must not be accompanied by any written or oral comment.
France Télévisions has been notified of this decision and it has been published in the Journal officiel de la République française.
