Opinion no. 2009-16 of December 15, 2009 on the draft decree amending the specifications of the national program company France Télévisions

The Conseil supérieur de l'a udiovisuel (French broadcasting authority), having been consulted by the Government, pursuant to article 48 of law no. 86-1067 of September 30, 1986 on freedom of communication, on the draft decree amending the specifications of the national program company France Télévisions, has issued a favorable opinion, after deliberation in plenary session on December 15, 2009.

The Conseil welcomes the extension of France Ô's broadcasting area, both in mainland France and overseas France, which it has always summoned. This extension will enhance the visibility of overseas France programs, provide greater insight into the cultural, economic and social realities of the various overseas France communities, and increase the free offering for the benefit of all viewers.

The Conseil is pleased to note that, at the same time as France Ô's diffusion is extended, overseas programs should benefit from greater exposure on France Télévisions' various channels, thanks to the widening of the scope of application of article 37 of the schedule of conditions of carriage, and thus improve the on-air representation of the diversity of French society.

The Conseil emphasizes that this development will stimulate and enhance the development of local production in the French overseas territories, which will thus gain national visibility.
