Opinion no. 2011-13 of July 19, 2011 concerning a draft ARCEP decision on frequencies allocated for the operation of auxiliary radio broadcasting equipment

On January 19, 2011, the Autorité de régulation des communications électroniques et des postes (ARCEP) issued a favorable opinion, with reservations, on a draft decision modifying the frequencies allocated on a secondary basis to "radio broadcasting auxiliary" equipment in the 470-790 MHz band (wireless microphones and wireless audio equipment enabling sound feedback and order links, widely used by professionals in the audiovisuel, live performance and film industries).

In its opinion, the Board approves the technical schemes planned by ARCEP to relax the conditions of use of the 470-790 MHz band. This relaxation meets the strong expectations expressed for several years by the professional users concerned.

On the other hand, the Board is concerned that the possibility of using the band at 1W, which ARCEP defines as the A category for sound return links and order links for professionals, should be maintained. These "walkie-talkie" uses could cause interference with digital terrestrial TV reception, and limit the resources available for wireless microphones. The Conseil therefore invites ARCEP to defer this measure pending the technical compatibility conclusions to be delivered by the Agence nationale des fréquences.
