Arcom publishes its report on media coverage of the election campaign for the renewal of the members of the Assembly of French Polynesia.

Summary

Under the provisions of Organic Law no. 2004-192 of February 27, 2004 on the autonomous status of French Polynesia, voters in the territory were summoned to renew the members of the Assembly of French Polynesia on April 16 and 30, 2023.

With this in mind, the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication (Arcom) paid close attention to the plurality of political parties and their candidates in the audiovisual media during the six weeks leading up to polling day.

By virtue of its regulatory powers under article 16 of the amended law no. 86-1067 of September 30, 1986 on freedom of communication, Arcom ensured strict enforcement of the texts governing media coverage of the election campaign. It also organized the official audiovisual campaign provided for under article L. 414 of the French Electoral Code, on the channels of the national company responsible for overseas France's public audiovisual communication service.

Arcom's assessment of the audiovisual media's handling of the campaign is positive. It notes that the principle of fairness that applied to interventions by representatives of candidate lists was generally respected. It commends the general efforts made by radio and television services to report on the election challenges.
