The economic fabric study is an Arcom report designed to take stock of the audiovisual production sector as a whole and assess its economic health.

Introduction

This sixth edition of the study on the economic fabric of audiovisual production takes place against the backdrop of the health crisis, which has had a major direct and indirect impact on the sector.

The crisis has had a negative impact on employment in the audiovisuel production sector, with shooting halted and orders from TV channels falling. The latter were forced to cut back on programming costs due to the contraction in advertising investment, the halt in filming and the cancellation of sporting events and live shows.

Nevertheless, the containment measures led to a sharp rise in consumption of SVOD services, prompting the latter to expand their catalogs.

The first part of this new edition uses the indicators from previous editions to provide an up-to-date quantitative overview of the audiovisual production sector, based on the monitoring of statistical series.

As in previous years, this study provides an in-depth look at a specific theme, which is the subject of a second part. This year, Arcom focused on the phenomenon of concentration within the audiovisual production sector, its limits and potential effects.
