Study - Illegal use of live TV programs
Unlawful access to live TV programs is practiced by around a quarter of Internet users aged 15 and over. There are three main modes of unlawful access: the most widespread and oldest is live streaming of sporting events via dedicated sites, which affects 17% of Internet users; access to programs shown live on social networks by users, which concerns 14% of Internet users; and finally, more recently, unlawful IPTV via specific software and applications, whether or not integrated into a box to be plugged into the TV set, which is currently used by 5% of Internet users. These unlawful services expose their users to real risks: viruses, malware, untimely advertising or hacking into their banking data. Unlawful IPTV also presents a high risk of cannibalization of legal supplies: 54% of users have already cancelled their subscription to a legal supply.
