Quantitative online study conducted by Ifop, from February 14 to March 13, 2019, among a national sample of 1,506 individuals, representative (according to the quota method) of French Internet users aged 15 and over, combined with an oversample of 822 unlawful consumers via social networks. The study covers the consumption of live sports broadcasts, films and TV series on the social networks Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Reddit.
Social networks and content-sharing platforms are regularly used by 16% of Internet users to access audio and video and sports-related contdnt illegally, either directly on the platforms themselves or through links to illicit sites accessible via these networks. YouTube and Facebook, and to a lesser extent Twitter, are the social platforms most concerned by these practices. The pleasant, easy-to-use interfaces of these platforms give an appearance of legality to this content, which appeals to particularly young Internet users accustomed to using these platforms as a single gateway to the Internet.
