Arcom's mission: protection of youth and persons under 18
All TV channels are required to take part in the campaign, and radio stations are encouraged to join in. The campaign, which features the Authority's key messages on protecting person under 18s from screens, will run this year from July 5 to 8, 2024.
Keep your child away from screens (TV, tablets and smartphones). Interaction with the world around them is essential to their development (language, motor skills, etc.).
Make sure your child only watches children's programs, with short broadcast sessions of no more than 30 to 40 minutes a day.
Choose suitable programs for a limited period of time. Excessive screen use can lead to problems with sleep, vision and concentration.
Make sure that youngsters spend no more than one hour a day in front of a screen, regardless of the medium.
Accompany your child in his or her discovery of screens.
Arcom has put together a leaflet for children's family and educational circles, with practical advice on the use of screens in the broadest sense, and the rules of caution and respect for others to be observed online.
Example of a TV message shown during the "Enfants et écrans" 2024 campaign (spot designed by France Télévisions and made available to all publishers).
For the protection of youngsters, Arcom relies on a committee of experts with diverse and complementary skills, in direct contact with the world of childhood.
The committee, which is renewed every two years, meets as part of the working group in charge of protecting person under 18s. Through its notices, it contributes to the AMF's efforts to protect minors, and feeds into Arcom's forward-looking vision of the challenges facing the protection of young people, particularly those related to new uses and digital technology.
