The French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication, Arcom, appoints the president of France Médias Monde for a five-year term.

On Thursday, October 27, 2022, as part of the proceedings to appoint a new president of France Médias Monde, as provided for in article 47-4 of the amended law of September 30, 1986 on freedom of communication, Arcom examined the applications received.

Arcom appoints Marie-Christine Saragosse as President of France Médias Monde

Under the provisions of article 47-4 of the law of September 30, 1986, after hearing the candidates and voting by secret ballot, Arcom has appointed Marie-Christine Saragosse as President of France Médias Monde, for a five-year term starting April 23, 2023.

Legal framework

Article 47-4 of the law of September 30, 1986 on freedom of communication, as amended by the law of November 15, 2013 on the independence of public broadcasting, entrusts Arcom with the task of appointing the president of France Médias Monde for a five-year term.

On July 27, 2022, Arcom published its deliberation on the procedures adopted for appointing the president of France Médias Monde.

Applications

Candidates had until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 21, to submit their applications digitally to Arcom.

After examining the applications on Thursday October 27, 2022, the Authority made public, on the same day, the list of admissible applications and the strategic projects relating to them.

On the same day, by a majority vote of its members and by secret ballot, the Authority also drew up the list of applications that would give rise to a hearing. This list has been made public.
