Roch-Olivier Maistre, Chairman of the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication (Arcom), and the members of his board were saddened to learn of the death of François Bonnemain.

A great journalist with a passion for culture and freedom, François Bonnemain devoted his life to the media and audiovisual industries. A graduate of the Centre de formation des journalistes de Paris, he began his career with the Associated Press and Agence France-Presse, before moving on to France Soir, TF1 and France Inter. A connoisseur of audiovisuel information, he joined Prime Minister Jacques Chirac's cabinet as an advisor in 1986, before taking over the management of Radio Tour Eiffel. Appointed a member of the French Superior Audiovisual Council in 1996, throughout his term of office he gave the regulator the benefit of his in-depth knowledge of the audiovisual industry and his recognized commitment to rigorous, plurality-based information.

In April 2006, François Bonnemain, then communications advisor to the Prime Minister, was unanimously elected to head TV5 Monde by the Board of Directors.He was instrumental in guiding the French-language channel through a period of profound change for France's foreign audiovisuel network.
