The French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication today adopted the deliberation on respect for the principle of political plurality in the run-up to the legislative elections on June 30 and July 7, 2024.

This deliberation applies to all audiovisual media and, in addition to the rules set out in the deliberation of June 4, 2011, is intended to determine how candidates' speaking times are to be taken into account in the forthcoming elections.

In view of the brevity of the campaign, Arcom is summoning publishers to be particularly vigilant in ensuring compliance with the rules in force, and is asking them to start counting election-related time as of 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday June 11, 2024.

The principle of fairness applies throughout the pre-election period. In order to correct any imbalances in speaking time within the set deadlines, the audiovisual media will be required to send statements to Arcom twice a week from June 17, 2024 as far as the first round is concerned.

In addition, online platforms are summoned to continue taking into account the recommendations published by Arcom on May 23 ahead of the European elections, which concern the mitigation of specific or amplified risks during election periods.
