Karine Berthelot-Guiet, Director of CELSA Sorbonne Université, and Roch-Olivier Maistre, Chairman of the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication (Arcom), today signed an agreement designed to strengthen cooperation between the leading school of communication and journalism and the regulator in the field of media, information and digital literacy.

Arcom wanted to forge a strategic partnership with CELSA and its courses, in order to raise its profile with students, set up educational initiatives and recruit interns, apprentices and employees trained at CELSA. Regular exchanges between CELSA and Arcom have demonstrated a very high level of common interest in the challenges of media and information literacy and digital citizenship.

"The signing of this agreement is particularly important to Arcom, because we have made education in the media, information and digital citizenship a priority in our roadmap, by creating a department dedicated to this issue and encouraging our sixteen local branches to take up the subject all over the country, to forge relationships with local representatives of the French Ministry of Education and the media committed to this theme. I am convinced that, at a time when false information is proliferating, digital uses are changing and the media's economic model is evolving, information literacy is a major democratic and social issue. Arcom is particularly pleased to enter into this partnership with CELSA, a leading public school of journalism and communication, which provides excellent training for future media professionals, and whose openness to the world and to the transformations of our media landscape is well established", emphasizes Roch-Olivier Maistre, President of Arcom.

CELSA, an internal school of Sorbonne University and member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles, wishes to develop its cooperation with institutional, socio-economic and associative circles as part of its multi-faceted mission: to provide training combining theoretical knowledge, professional know-how and academic methodologies in the humanities, social sciences and information and communication sciences; and to promote the professional integration of the student community by working closely with employment players.

"The establishment of a strategic partnership between Arcom and CELSA is the happy culmination of regular and fruitful exchanges between our two institutions. It testifies to a shared interest in the challenges facing education in media, information and digital citizenship. Arcom's recognized expertise on these issues is naturally intended to consolidate the training and professional integration missions to which CELSA is particularly committed. In an ever-changing social, political and cultural environment, it seems crucial to cultivate a shared focus on the challenges of media representation and regulation, the preservation of a pluralist audiovisual supply and the defense of creative freedom. It is with great enthusiasm that the teaching and administrative teams of the "Entreprises & Institutions", "Médias" and "Journalisme" departments are committing themselves to working alongside Arcom as part of the educational initiatives that will be carried out with CELSA students and staff" jointly declare Isabelle Lebreton-Falezan and Thierry Devars, lecturers at CELSA and managers of the Masters programs involved in this partnership.

Under the terms of the agreement, CELSA and Arcom have made strong commitments to :

1) The diffusion of teaching resources dealing with challenges such as media representations (questions of equality, diversity, rights and freedoms, etc.), exposure to screens, respect for royalties, promotion of legal supplies and responsible uses of the Internet.

2) The organization of training courses for students and the hosting of students or teachers for immersion courses, as well as apprentices.

3) The development of educational initiatives relating to media literacy, information literacy and digital citizenship as part of CELSA's "Media", "Business and Institutions" and "Journalism" departments.

4) Arcom's participation in virtual recruitment forums organized by CELSA to recruit interns, apprentices and youngsters.

5) The collaboration of Arcom and CELSA members in academic or educational productions on media literacy, information literacy and digital citizenship.

Education in media, information and digital citizenship is a key issue, above all for youngsters and future professionals in the communication and information professions. Through this new agreement, CELSA and Arcom are affirming their desire to equip each and every one of them with the keys to understanding and analyzing information.
