Protection of persons under 18 online: Arcom issues formal notice to five EU-based porn sites
Pursuant to the law of May 21, 2024 aimed at securing and regulating the digital space (SREN law), Arcom ensures that pornographic sites abide by their obligations in terms of protecting minors, in particular by implementing effective schemes to verify the age of users.
On June 11, 2025, after noting the absence of age verification measures, in breach of legal obligations, Arcom sent a letter of observation to five pornographic sites established in the European Union.
Noting that the sites concerned had not complied with the law within the allotted timeframe, the Arcom board decided to give them formal notice to comply with their obligations, within a period of three weeks. After this deadline, if the sites have not complied with the law, Arcom will initiate delisting and blocking proceedings against them, in accordance with the schemes set out in the SREN law.
Arcom has also decided to send a letter of observation to a provider who had revoked its age verification scheme following the suspension of the decree.
Arcom is determined to play an active role in protecting person under 18s on the Internet, while ensuring that the confidentiality of personal data is respected.
