France 2 and France 3 roll out in UHD

In May 2023, the Government asked Arcom to authorize France Télévisions to show France 2 and, from July 10 to September 10, 2024, France 3 (national edition) in ultra-high definition (UHD) on digital terrestrial television (DTT). In response to this demand, the Authority issued UHD authorizations for France 2 and France 3 on October 25, 2023 for mainland France, and on December 20, 2023 for overseas France. Numbers 52 and 53 were allocated to France 2 and France 3 in mainland France, while numbers 22 and 23 were allocated to overseas France.

This diffusion is intended to cover a large part of mainland France, as well as nine overseas collectivities (Reunion, Mayotte, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Wallis and Futuna, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, New Caledonia, Polynesia).

UHD programs will be shown on a dedicated multiplex, called R9 in mainland France and ROMU in overseas territories. France Télévisions makes provision for several successive deployment phases. Commissioning dates for each site will be set and communicated progressively.

Frequency rearrangements

The implementation of the UHD multiplex requires the rearrangement of a limited number of frequencies on the in mainland France DTT network, with no frequency changes necessary for the overseas territories. The new frequency plan for the transmitters concerned, and the timetable for implementing the frequency changes, are shown below.

Frequency plan and schedule

The frequency plan for sites where the UHD multiplex will be deployed, as well as those where a change of frequency is planned, will be updated regularly, as soon as the deployment schedule has been set for the areas concerned.

Please note that published frequency plans are indicative and subject to change.
