Public consultation on the general reference framework for the ecodesign of digital services
This document has been produced by the French regulatory authority for electronic communications, post and press distribution(Arcep) and the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication(Arcom), in collaboration with the French Agency for Ecological Transition(ADEME), the French Interministerial Digital Department(DINUM), the French national data protection agency(CNIL) and the French national research institute for digital science and technology(Inria).
The aim of this public consultation is to gather responses and comments from interested parties on the draft general reference framework for the eco-design of digital services produced by Arcep and Arcom, to which ADEME, DINUM, CNIL and Inria have also contributed. The general reference framework for the eco-design of digital services is a technical document intended for experts and professionals involved in the development, conception and design of digital services. It gathers together criteria to ensure that a digital service is part of an eco-design approach, meaning "the integration of environmental characteristics into product design with a view to improving the product's environmental performance throughout its life cycle".
In practice, the draft general digital ecodesign reference framework brings together a series of criteria accompanied by practical sheets, and thus lists the essential questions for ensuring that a service integrates environmental challenges right from the design stage. The reference framework will enable the calculation of a progress score to monitor the environmental performance of a digital service. It also calls on players wishing to use the standard to publish an ecodesign declaration, to ensure that users are adequately informed of the efforts actually made to reduce impacts.
The opinion of all interested parties is sought on the whole of this document, and in particular on the questions put by the Authorities.
This public consultation is open until November 9, 23:59, Paris time. Only contributions received before the deadline will be taken into account.
Responses should be sent to Arcep using the form available on the Arcep website.
