Coverage of the Rassemblement national trial on March 31, 2025: intervention with CNEWS

Arcom was alerted to media coverage of the Rassemblement National (RN) trial by the CNEWS channel on March 31, 2025.

While it observed that many media outlets had commented extensively on this court ruling, the Authority noted that numerous on-air statements, notably during several programs (Morandini Live and Midi News), tended to emphasize without measure or moderation the supposedly undue, indeed illegal, nature of the ineligibility sentence handed down to the president of the RN group in the French National Assembly, the latter being presented as the victim of a judicial plot.

It also noted the repeated and uncritical nature, throughout the day, of these positions, which were not contradicted on set.

The Authority therefore considered that these sequences, insofar as they characterized both a treatment of the case lacking in measure and rigor and a lack of on-air control, infringed the aforementioned provisions and stipulations of articles 3 of the deliberation of April 18, 2018 and 2-2-1 of the channel's agreement.

As a result, Arcom firmly summoned the service editor to demonstrate, in the future, increased vigilance with regard to their observance.
