The programme ‘L'édito politique’, shown on 5 January 2026 – an appearance on BFM TV

A complainthas been lodged with Arcom regarding ‘L’Edito politique’, shown on 5 January 2026 on BFM TV as part of the programme ‘BFM Première’, during which a commentator discussed La France Insoumise’s stance on certain foreign regimes.

Meeting as a full panel on 22 July 2026, Arcom deliberated on the matter.

Under the provisions of Article 1 of Decision No. 2018-11 of 18 April 2018 on the integrity and independence of news and the programmes that contribute to it: ‘The broadcaster of an audiovisuel service must ensure the integrity of the news and programmes it broadcasts. […] The broadcaster shall guarantee the accuracy and sources of all information. Where possible, the source of such information must be indicated. Uncertain information shall be presented in the conditional tense. The broadcaster shall provide evidence of rigour in the presentation and treatment of information.”

Whilst it noted that the comments at issue here formed part of an editorial and a political debate, which by their very nature allow for greater freedom of expression, it nevertheless considered that this freedom did not exempt the channel from ensuring that the facts presented to the public were based on sufficiently established evidence or, failing that, were set out with the requisite caution.

In particular, Arcom noted that some of Arthur Berdah’s allegations concerning LFI’s stance on the situations of Christophe Gleizes and Boualem Sansal were not based on any factual evidence, and had even been publicly contradicted by that party or some of its representatives.

Consequently, Arcom has demanded that the broadcaster exercise greater vigilance in future with regard to compliance with the aforementioned provisions.

However, as regards the potentially defamatory nature of elements of this segment, it does not fall within the competence of Arcom to assess this, but rather that of the courts.
