To get a better idea of how representative women's sports are on television, Arcom has measured the share of women's, mixed and men's sports competition shows in the total volume of sports broadcasting on television between 2018 and 2021.

As part of its remit to ensure fair representation of the diversity of French society on television, the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication, Arcom, has been offering an annual operation to publicize women's sport since 2014, encouraging TV channels and radio stations to show sports broadcasts and organize debates with sportswomen or women managers of sporting institutions. A new edition of the " Sport féminin toujours" operation was launched on January 26, 2023.

Against this backdrop, and in order to gain a better understanding of the representativeness of women's sports on television, the Authority wanted to measure the share of broadcasts of women's, mixed and men's sports competitions in the total volume of sports broadcasting on television between 2018 and 2021.

This is the fifth edition of this study. Previous measurements were carried out in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017; the analysis is renewed here with methodological adjustments, with the aim of strengthening the robustness of the results.
