Arcom publishes the first results of its new barometer of sports program consumption.
- Sports-related contdnt is massively followed by the French in audiovisual and digital media: almost three-quarters (73%) watch or listen to competitions, summaries, interviews or documentaries devoted to athletes, whatever the medium and frequency.
- Six months ahead of the opening ceremony, two-thirds of the population say they intend to follow the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and an almost equivalent rate for the Paralympic Games.
- The event presents itself as an unprecedented window of media exposure, particularly for women's sport and parasport, consumption of which is still mainly occasional and dependent on major international competitions.
- It will also presenta challenge in the fight against online hatred of athletes, with 12% of sports program consumers admitting to posting negative messages on social networks at least from time to time, including insults.
These results were presented at the Authority's headquarters on Tuesday, January 23, at a press conference on the representation of sport on air and online, by Roch-Olivier Maistre, Chairman of Arcom, and Laurence Pécaut-Rivolier, Arcom member and Chair of the "Protection des publics et diversité de la société française" working group, in the presence of Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee, among others.
