The French and drama
Summary
Against a backdrop of a general decline in individual listening time (IST), drama continues to play a central role in television consumption.
Consumption of original French-language (EOF) drama on TV has risen sharply since 2019, and is now in the majority. The detective genre is doing particularly well on TV, whatever the age category, and is particularly popular with older viewers. As a result, the top 10 dramas of 2024 are dominated by the crime genre and French works. Consumption of drama on channels' non-linear services is increasing.
The share of French drama in SVOD services' fiction consumption remains in the minority, but has dubbed since 2020. SVOD services stand out from TV with a greater diversity of drama themes (both supply and consumption).
