Following its appointment as coordinator for digital services, Arcom has set up an observatory of the audience for online platforms. This observatory provides a better understanding of Internet users' habits, and helps guide the regulator's actions and priorities.

    Introduction

The law of May 21, 2024 aimed at securing and regulating the digital space(SREN) adapts the European Regulation on Digital Services(RSN) into national law, and formalizes the designation of Arcom as the authority responsible for coordinating the regulation of French online platforms for France, alongside the French national data protection agency (CNIL) and the DGCCRF, also designated as competent authorities.

Arcom has set up this audience observatory with the aim of developing a better understanding of the audiences of very large online platforms and search engines (VLOPSEs), as well as platforms established in France and potentially subject to the RSN.

It also analyzes the audience of these same sites and platforms among persons under 18. This observatory provides a better understanding of the uses of Internet users, both under 18 and over 18, and their development, and will help inform the actions of the regulation.
