Summary
Since 28 June 2025, when the Directive on accessibility requirements for products and services came into force, all newly published Ebooks and e-reader software must be accessible to people with disabilities.

The Arcom report highlights the formats, protection measures and accessibility metadata of Ebooks published in 2025.
Arcom also presents a study on French people’s consumption of audiobooks and Ebooks over the past twelve months.
Key figures
More than 45,000 Ebooks were published in 2025
Of these structures, nearly 11,000 are subject to accessibility requirements.
More than half of the books are in resizable EPUB format
In particular, this format allows youto enlarge the text, use text-to-speech, and adjust the contrast.
Users of DYS software
14 per cent of Ebook or audiobook users make use of software to make reading easier for people with DYS disorders (dyslexia, dysorthographia, dyspraxia, etc.).
