All about: Arcom warnings following an infringement of royalties
You need to take steps to ensure that your connection is not used to download or share protected works over the Internet. Here are four types of measures that will enable you to take effective action:
- Secure your Internet access by configuring your connection box (" What is a box and how do I configure it?" ): boxes offer several types of settings that enable the connection holder to take measures to control the use that may be made of his or her connection by third parties (Wi-Fi access settings, creation of lists of authorized users, etc.). You can also contact your Internet service provider directly for further information.
- Check the household's computers/tablets:
- If you have peer-to-peer software installed and it is only used for downloading protected works, you should uninstall it: the peer-to-peer scheme (P2P for short) enables remote users to exchange files, using a specific software program or application. This type of software or application is generally configured to automatically make the files it contains (previously downloaded) available on the Internet, as soon as the device (computer or tablet) is connected to the Internet. It's not enough to stop using it for downloading; you need to uninstall the software to make sure it doesn't automatically re-share files in infringement of copyright. To find out how to uninstall this type of software: (" Uninstalling peer-to-peer software ").
- If you share a device with several people in your household, you may want to install a parental control tool or create "user" accounts, separate from your "administrator" account, which will, for example, prevent the installation of software without the administrator's authorization.
