Radio station RTL has decided to stop showing its long-wave programmes, as of January 1, 2023.

Radio RTL, which uses the 234 kHz frequency transmitted from Luxembourg, is the last French station to use this broadcasting method.

The measure should enable the group to reduce its annual electricity consumption by some 6,000 megawatt-hours.

234 kHz is not a frequency falling within the competence of the French authorities. It is therefore not within the scope of the frequencies for which Arcom issues a broadcasting authorization. However, this frequency covers a large part of mainland France.

To find out whether you're listening to RTL on long wave, your radio receiver will indicate "LO", "LW", "GO" or "AM".

To continue listening to RTL, there are a number of options available to listeners:

The FM band

You can browse My FM Radio or the RTL frequency list to find out which frequencies you are likely to receive.

Digital terrestrial radio or DAB+.

You can browse Arcom's interactive MaRadioDabPlus map. After entering the desired location (department then town), you'll find out which digital radios are currently available, and get information on upcoming rollouts.

RTLInternet and mobile application

You can continue to listen to RTL radio on the Internet, via the station's website or directly by downloading the RTL application for smartphones , tablets and certain connected speakers.
