Appointment to the presidency of Radio France: list of eligible candidates and schedule of hearings

The French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication (Arcom) has today examined the applications received via the e-mail address set up for this purpose, as part of the proceedings for appointment to the presidency of the national program company Radio France, as provided for in article 47-4 of the law of September 30, 1986 on freedom of communication, and in accordance with its deliberations of July 27.

The 3 applications received have been declared admissible in the light of the admissibility criteria set out in the aforementioned deliberation and Radio France's bylaws.

Today, by a majority vote of its members and by secret ballot, Arcom also drew up the list of candidates to be auditioned, and established the following timetable by drawing lots:

  • Mr. Florent Chatain on Monday December 19, 2022 at 9:00 am;
  • Ms Maïa Wirgin on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 11:15 am;
  • Ms Sibyle Veil on Monday December 19, 2022 at 2:30 pm.

Each hearing will take place at Arcom headquarters in two separate phases:

  • a first public part, lasting no more than one hour.This part will be filmed and shown live on the Arcom website (arcom.fr), accompanied by French sign language translation and subtitling; videos of the hearings will subsequently remain available on the Authority's website;
  • a second, one-hour session in camera, in accordance with recital 14 of the Conseil constitutionnel's decision no. 2000-433 DC of July 27, 2000.

In addition, as indicated in the aforementioned deliberation of July 27, 2022, the Autorité is today publishing on its website the strategic plans of the candidates.

The appointment decision will be made public no later than Monday January 16, 2023.
