Conseil d'Etat decision of February 13, 2024: Arcom's reaction
Arcom has taken note of the Conseil d'Etat's decision of February 13, 2024 on the plurality and independence of information in the audiovisual media.
With this renewed performance of the 1986 law, the Conseil d'Etat strengthens the regulator's ability to control the obligations of these media in terms of honesty, plurality and independence of information, while abiding by their editorial freedom.
From now on, in addition to counting the speaking time of political figures, the regulation will be able to take into account the contributions of all participants in the programs shown, including columnists, presenters and guests, in order to assess a publisher's respect for the plurality of currents of thought and opinion.
Similarly, to ensure the independence of news programmes, Arcom will now be able to take into account all the operating conditions and programming characteristics of the channels.
Arcom will re-examine the appeal lodged by Reporters sans frontières, under the provisions of today's decision.
