DAB+ digital radio trials underway on Reunion Island
DAB+ digital terrestrial radio now covers 62.2% of the population in mainland France. To give local radio stations a chance to familiarize themselves with the technology, and to give the public a first taste of the advantages of DAB+, including sound quality, Arcom has decided to authorize several trials on Reunion Island.
The trial, which began on March 1, is already enabling more than twenty radio stations to listen on DAB+: Azot Radio, Fréquence Oasis, Capital FM, Hit FM, Fréquence Sud, Kayanm FM, Kréol FM, Mélodia, Néo FM, RJL, RPI, Top FM, Vanakkam Réunion, Radio ACB, Radio Arc-en-ciel, Radio Kontak, RM9, RIL FM, Radio Pikan, Radio Soleil, Radio Sud Plus, Radio Zantak and Salazes FM. This trial marks a new stage in its deployment, with the arrival of Réunion La 1ère and France Inter on DAB+.
These stations will be available not only to residents of Saint-Denis, but also to listeners in the south and east of the island[1].
In order to guarantee territorial continuity in the implementation of DAB+, and in the light of the results of these trials, Arcom will decide whether, in consultation with local players, to summon applications, the first stage of which would be to complete the planning model for DAB+ frequencies on the island.
The authority will remain attentive to feedback from the general public and from radio stations on Reunion Island, as well as to the wishes and initiatives of overseas communities in this area.

[1] Trials on Reunion Island began in March 2024 in the Saint Denis area alone. Since the beginning of November 2024, they have been extended to the south and east of the island (Tampon and Saint-André zones).
