French superior council of artistic and literary property and Arcom launch mission on podcasts
Olivier Japiot, President of the French superior council of artistic and literary property (French superior council of artistic and literary property), and Roch-Olivier Maistre, President of the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication (Arcom), have entrusted Ms Anne-Emmanuelle Kahn with a joint mission on podcasts.
On February 9, 2024, the Observatoire des podcasts, co-piloted by the French Ministry of Culture and Arcom, published its first study mapping the sector and its dynamics. It shows that the podcast market has an abundant choice of services and a strong demand dynamic, but remains economically fragile. Intellectual property is identified as one of the levers to be mobilized to support the development of this ecosystem.
Against this backdrop, the French superior council of artistic and literary property is tasked with taking stock of the legal issues involved in developing this promising ecosystem, through the prism of literary and artistic property. It will then assess the appropriateness of developing this legal managerial framework, with a view to securing the value chain linked to podcast production, and ensuring better remuneration for the various rights holders, in particular authors and performers.)
The mission will present a progress report at the French superior council of artistic and literary property's plenary meeting in July 2024. Its final report will be presented by the end of 2024.
