Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: Arcom welcomes unprecedented visibility for parasport and encourages publishers to maintain their efforts beyond the Games
On the eve of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Arcom salutes the exceptional visibility offered to parasport. Indeed, for the first time ever, all Paralympic events will be shown in their entirety, live, on French television.
300 hours of events will be broadcast on public service channels. They will be available in subtitled and "oralized" versions[1], with 7 hours of live coverage per day, to enable the deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind and partially-sighted to follow the athletes' performances to the full.
In addition to the events, the public will be able to access a wide range of programmes (reports, interviews, documentaries) dedicated to parasport and the athletes present, thanks to the mobilization of all the audiovisual publishers, both public and private.
The regulator, who has been committed for many years to improving the representation of people with disabilities in the media, summons all television and radio broadcasters to make this major event a lasting media springboard for parasport.
Arcom invites all audiovisual media to pursue and amplify, beyond the Games, the efforts undertaken to ensure real exposure of people with disabilities on the airwaves, as well as greater program accessibility.
