For 100 years, radio has held a special place in the hearts and daily lives of the French. It is the medium of proximity, mobility, information, sharing and discovery, in France and around the world.

Today, it attracts nearly 40 million listeners every day, including almost 10 million on local stations.

As the latest Arcom barometer on French audiovisuel equipment shows, almost all French people own at least one radio. More than 9 million listen to the radio every day on digital media.

Over and above the French people's attachment to radio, these facts underline the medium's formidable capacity for adaptation and reinvention, which over the decades has been able to adapt to the diverse uses of all generations.

The nationwide rollout of digital terrestrial radio (DAB+) is enabling more and more listeners to benefit from an expanded supply and improved listen quality, and podcasts are attracting 20 million listeners every month.

The theme of Unesco's World Radio Day highlights the life of radio: its remarkable past, its relevant present and the promise of a dynamic future.

We must now move forward calmly and resolutely towards the future of radio. Arcom will publish its White Paper on Radio in the spring, with the aim of making a useful contribution to the debate and criminal proceedings to build tomorrow's radio together, promoting its strengths and making it part of a European dynamic.

The regulator will always be at the side of industry players, supporting them with confidence and optimism, in the interests of all listeners.
