In the digital age, the rapid diffusion of information is both a transformative force and a major challenge. False information, which can be defined as factually inaccurate, erroneous or misleading content, shown intentionally or unintentionally, has become a global issue with profound implications for democracy, public health and social cohesion.
The aim of the study is to test the permeability of the French to false information according to various factors:
- quantify the ability to identify true/false information ;
- identify audiences/situations at risk;
- understand the mechanisms that shape the verdict on information.
2,000 individuals were surveyed online between November 14 and 26, 2025.

Fighting against the manipulation of information on online platforms - Report 2026
Arcom has been tasked by the legislator with drawing up an assessment of the means and measures implemented by the very large online platforms and search engines (TGPL-TGMR) to fight the manipulation of information on their services, in coordination with the European Commission and within the framework of the European Digital Services Act (RSN).
