Arcom's new website focuses on ergonomics and accessibility
Summary
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve and better meet your needs, the website of the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication, Arcom, has been completely redesigned to offer you an even more efficient service tailored to your requirements.
A new home page, highlighting the Authority's rich and varied missions, gives professional users and the general public more intuitive, responsive browsing and rapid access to:
news,
studies, assessments and reports,
and to Arcom services according to media: Radio and digital audio; Television and video on demand; Internet and social networks.
With a view to the inclusion of people with disabilities, the Authority's website, arcom.fr, recently increased its compliance rate with the Référentiel Général d'Amélioration de l'Accessibilité.
Accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities
We are proud to announce that the website of the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication, Arcom, is now partially compliant with the Référentiel Général d'Amélioration de l'Accessibilité(RGAA) with a rate of 80%. This technical development reflects the Authority's deep commitment to accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities.
What is the RGAA?
The Référentiel Général d'Amélioration de l'Accessibilité (RGAA) defines a technical method and proposes an operational manager for checking compliance with accessibility requirements. It comprises 106 control criteria, with an average of 2.5 tests per criterion. Some tests list implementation techniques (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.).
Who is the RGAA for?
Web accessibility is aimed at users with disabilities:
- visually impaired users
- users with motor disabilities
- users with dyslexia
- users with mental or cognitive disabilities
- deaf or hard-of-hearing users
Arcom website more accessible to people with disabilities
The Arcom website, arcom.fr, can now be used in a more accessible way. By complying with the RGAA, we are ensuring that all people, whether with disabilities or not, can access our content, interact with our functionalities and benefit from all the services we offer.
Arcom.fr has been improved to meet the requirements of the W3C's WCAG 2.1 standard, to enable access to pages for people with disabilities, and to ensure compatibility with various assistive tools and browsing means (voice reader, Braille display, mouse-free browsing, etc.).
In addition, the ordinance of September 6, 2023 amended the law of February 11, 2005 for equal rights and opportunities, participation and citizenship of disabled people, notably through the creation of article 47-1 of this law. This entrusts Arcom with the task of ensuring compliance with a certain number of obligations relating to the accessibility of digital services, i.e. websites, mobile applications, intranets and so on.
Respect for rights and norms
Compliance with the RGAA is not a matter of moral choice, but a legal requirement. By complying with these norms, we not only respect the rights of disabled people, but also comply with web accessibility legislation. It's our commitment to social responsibility and our contribution to building a more just and equitable world for all.
Commitment to inclusion
We firmly believe that inclusion is essential in today's digital world. By adopting the RGAA accessibility norms, we're working to create an online environment where no one is left behind. We want everyone to feel welcome and able to participate fully in our online community, whatever their disability.
Enhanced user experience
Accessibility isn't just for people with disabilities. By making our site more accessible, we also improve the experience for all our users.
Features such as keyboard browsing, alternative descriptions for images and improved contrasts benefit everyone, resulting in greater satisfaction and smoother use of our site. We've worked hard to comply with the RGAA, but we know that accessibility is an ongoing process that encompasses the use of our services and procedures (forms, applications...). We therefore invite you to give us your feedback on the accessibility of our site. Your comments will help us to identify areas for improvement and to continue to increase our online experience for all.
