Every month, digital terrestrial radio (DAB+) reaches new deployment milestones. Discover the next steps between October 2023 and March 2024.

Since 2014, digital terrestrial radio, or DAB+, has been rolling out in France.

DAB+ technology enables radio multiplexes to be shown. Two in mainland multiplexes, M1 and M2, show radios from the main private and public service groups, as well as new radios only available on DAB+.

    Second deployment phase

These two multiplexes went live in October 2021, completing the first phase of national development. The first deployment phase covered at least 20% of freeways and 20% of the population of mainland France: since October 2021, in mainland multiplexes have been available along the Paris-Lyon-Marseille axis. This first deployment phase was completed by the commissioning of a number of sites between October 2021 and July 2023.

The second phase is scheduled to run from October 2023 to March 2024. Preparatory work for this phase (definition of deployment axes, launch of calls for supply to broadcasters, etc.) began at the end of 2022.

Between July and October 2023, the Authority approved 297 sites summoned for deployment between October 2023 and March 2024. In all, the second deployment phase will involve the commissioning of 299 transmitters.
