The aim of this study is to compare the disincentives to legal consumption with the reality of the catalog supply of video on demand (VOD) and subscription video on demand (SVOD) services among the 33,751 films released theatrically in France between 1950 and 2021.

According to Arcom's Baromètre de la consommation 2022 , 41% of Internet users with unlawful online cultural practices cite "the weakness of the legal supply" as an obstacle to legal consumption, the second most frequently cited argument after price. In particular, 18% believe that it is difficult to find the work they are looking for, and 16% that the legal supply is too limited.

The aim of this study is to compare these feelings with the reality of the catalog supply of video-on-demand (VOD) and subscription (SVOD) services among the 33,751 films released theatrically in France between 1950 and 2021.

It is part of Arcom's mission to encourage the development of legal supplies on the Internet, and to monitor the legal and unlawful use of copyrighted works.
