Positive economic spinoffs from a first-of-its-kind scheme
France Télévisions, Eurosport, Radio France and RMC have put in place an extensive scheme to ensure coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The official broadcasters have opted for a multi-channel strategy, combining live broadcasts on linear channels, interactive feeds on digital platforms and frequent publications on social networks, in order to reach a wide audience, particularly youngsters.
The broadcasting of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games resulted in a significant audience gain for the competition's official broadcasters, and France Télévisions in particular. The public broadcaster saw its audience share increase sharply throughout the competition, with French viewers following it intensively. The effect was also felt on the group's digital platform, which recorded a marked increase in traffic during the event.
The appeal of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games enabled TV broadcasters to significantly boost their advertising revenues. Benefiting from widespread interest from advertisers and sharply higher gross prices per second, France Télévisions and Eurosport recorded advertising spend at unprecedented levels.

At the same time, 600 hours of live coverage of the Olympic Games were broadcast on France Télévisions channels.
Extensive live consumption enhanced by digital channels
Nearly three-quarters of French people report having followed the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The majority of spectators report assiduous consumption of the event, and almost daily broadcast viewing of the competitions for a large proportion of them. While the event brought together a wide and diverse audience, intensive followers stand out for their more male, older, more Ile-de-France and higher socio-professional categories profiles.
The Paris 2024 Games were followed to a very large extent through the viewing of live broadcasts on TV channels, resulting in record audiences and listen times for a wide variety of events, both Olympic and Paralympic. For the majority of French people, the TV set remains the screen of reference for watching sports competitions.
In addition to traditional TV viewing, consumption has spread to a wide range of media - smartphones, computers, tablets - and types of content - news about the event, extracts or summaries of events, specialized programmes - particularly among youngsters. Prized for their wealth of supply, digital channels were used as a complement to the TV set, as were social networks, browsed by almost half of all Games spectators.

In total, 71% of French people said they watched the Olympic Games and 59% the Paralympic Games.

Strong public enthusiasm and benefits for the perception of sport
The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were a source of pride for a very large proportion of French people, who on the whole took a very positive view of them, particularly in terms of audiovisual broadcasting. The content offered by broadcasters, on both linear channels and digital platforms, was particularly appreciated by intensive consumers of the competition.
More broadly, spectators praise the quality of the live event diffusion, both from an editorial and technical point of view.
Beyond the satisfaction generated, the diffusion of the Paris 2024 Games offered unprecedented media exposure to numerous disciplines, resulting in significant positive spin-offs, notably on the perception of parasport and the practice of sport. Three quarters of spectators acknowledged that the competition had changed their view of disability, and a majority said it had made them want to do more sport, a particularly high figure among youngersters.
Reflecting the enthusiasm generated among the general public, the Olympic and Paralympic Games generated a huge number of comments on social networks, forums, blogs and websites. The majority of posts were aimed at praising the performances of the athletes, particularly the gold medallists, with a relatively limited number of offensive or potentially discriminatory messages.
