The 35th Press and Media Week in Schools(SPME), of which the French regulatory authority for audiovisual and digital communication, Arcom, is once again a partner, aims tohelp students understand the media scheme, shape their critical verdict, develop their taste for news and forge their identity as citizens.
As in previous years, it mobilizes schoolteachers, librarians and teachers to introduce students from kindergarten to high school to the world of the press and media. During the week, teachers carry out media education sequences in class, set up actions within schools, propose meetings with journalists and media professionals, and set up information production sequences with journalists and the media.
Numerous events are also organized in the Île-de-France region and in the Académie.
This year's theme is"News on all fronts", which addresses the current challenges of journalism under pressure, artificial intelligence and media coverage of ecology and climate.
Throughout France, Arcom regularly conducts initiatives to promote media and information literacy and digital citizenship. On the occasion of Press and Media Week in Schools (SPME), the Authority is visiting classrooms, welcoming students and giving them the opportunity to speak with members of the Arcom college, to gain a better understanding of the French media and digital ecosystem.
For the 2024 edition :
For several years now, the question of how the audiovisual sector (television, radio, online platforms and regulation) can contribute to education in the media, information and digital citizenship has emerged as a necessity in support of teacher-led initiatives.
Arcom has been involved in media, information and digital literacy education for several years, producing resources for teachers, parents and families, as well as professionals, that address issues of information ethics, respect for royalties, and present the challenges of representation and equality in the audiovisual media.
Arcom's actions in the field of media literacy, information literacy and digital citizenship focus on three main areas:
Every year, Arcom presents a report on the actions taken by the audiovisual media to promote media literacy, information and digital citizenship, and highlights innovative initiatives at national and European level.
The Media literacy, information literacy and digital citizenship section offers educational resources for teachers and the general public, including explanatory videos, archive videos, infographics, thematic reports and assessments, and teaching scenarios.
