Key figures for 2024
Our audiovisual uses have a growing have a growing environmental impact. Watching 5 hours of HD-quality video on your smartphone every month via a mobile network is equivalent to travelling 88 km by TGV.
94% of French people are interested in information and keep themselves informed on a daily basis. Among the media, television remains the primary means of accessing information (66% watch it every day).
As part of their financing obligations, TV channels and SMAD invested a total of 1.58 billion euros in French and European audiovisual and cinematic production (an increase of over 12%).
By December 2024 , more than 62% of the population in mainland France was covered by DAB+, compared with 50% at the end of 2023.

In 2024, Arcom focused on preserving and strengthening democratic and social values within the audiovisual and digital media. By placing the protection of audiences, diversity, plurality of currents of thought and opinion and freedom of expression at the heart of its action, it has supported media and platforms in meeting the challenges of a changing society.
Media education
In 2024, Arcom consolidated its flagship projects with students and diversified its approach to media literacy and digital citizenship to reach new audiences.
Political plurality
Voters were summoned to the polls twice in 2024. The first time, on June 9, 2024, for the election of France'seighty-one representatives to the European Parliament. The second time, on June 30 and July 7, 2024, to renew the French National Assembly.
Following these elections, in July 2024, Arcom published a deliberation on respect for the principle of plurality of currents of thought and opinion.
Supervision of digital platforms
Arcom continues to protect the public by helping platforms take greater responsibility. By placing user safety and the fight against the manipulation of information and hateful content at the heart of its action, Arcom actively contributes to a safer Internet for all.
Radio and digital audio
Arcom is the French radio regulator. From the rollout of digital terrestrial radio (DAB+) to studies on podcasts, the Authority is closely monitoring the modernised medium and the development of on-demand digital audio media.
Creative protection
Arcom guarantees compliance with obligations to broadcast or exhibit audiovisual and cinematographic works, and with service editors' investment in production.
Arcom is committed to fighting against sports piracy, and in particular against unlawful live webcasting of sports competitions.

Digital terrestrial television (DTT)
On February 28, 2024, in view of the expiry of the licenses for fifteen services in 2025, Arcom launched a summon to applications for the production of national, full-time, high-definition DTT services.
24 candidates, whose applications were declared admissible, were received for a public hearing from July 8 to 17.
